K&D Landscaping Is Backing CASA of Monterey County
Forty-four kids in Monterey County are waiting on a CASA advocate right now. That's the number Gilda Gonzales, executive director of CASA of Monterey County, carries with her every day. Each case means a judge has already ordered an advocate be assigned. The volunteer just hasn't shown up yet, but K&D Landscaping is changing that math.
On Aug. 28, the Watsonville landscaping company is running its third annual K&D Classic golf tournament in Aptos. Every dollar raised goes to CASA of Monterey County, which pairs trained volunteers with kids in the foster care and juvenile justice systems, one advocate to one child, for up to two years at a time. It costs about $8,800 to fully support one advocate from recruitment through training. K&D's tournament won't close the gap alone, but it's a real dent in it.
