The actual costs in the work in progress (work orders) report don't match the actual costs in the opportunity list, which one is correct?
That’s a great question - and the answer is “both”, depending on the time of day!
The Work In Progress (Work Orders) report is not time limited; it will pull work order opportunity data from day one of your company’s existence on the platform; it’s very powerful in that way. However, if we put that much power in the screen load process it would time out with almost every use. For that reason, this report is based on data that is updated overnight through background processes, so when you drill into it, you’re seeing “last night’s” data - that keeps the report performant, so you can update the custom date filters and see any range of opportunities you need to look at.
That means that if costs hit a work ticket during the day (and of course they will, because you’re running your business!) the work in progress report will not have that day’s data until the background process runs overnight. I would expect the report will match the opportunity search list values first thing in the morning, before any other real-time updates have happened, but by the end of the day, you might see some discrepancies in the data.
