Earlier this year I was really frustrated with the internal Aspire SMS notification tool. Specifically, I had a customer that was opted in to the SMS, I had several services scheduled and they got 5 texts. I got an angry phone call :(

Our spray division is dynamic and we try to accomodate call-ins, and re-services within 24 hours. This means that the schedule is subject to change. You can’t edit the cancellation text that aspire sends if you re-schedule a visit, which also leads to an angry phone call.

I also have customers who want notifications for certain services but not others. Ms. Sally might want texts about spray and mulch visits, while Mr. Joe only wants mowing notifications. With the existing system, you can’t automate that level of service-specific communication.

I built an early version that automatically syncs contacts and phone numbers from Aspire into Quo.

I then had it pull my 14 day schedule. I built it to be filterable, and had it use the tokens from the visit fields to draft texts.

I could now pull open my  dashboard in the morning, and choose who gets a text ahead, for which services. They get one text for all selected services.

My office manager went from hand typing texts, to clicking a button and hitting send after confirming the schedule was set for the day.

After using the initial version internally, I worked with a developer to turn it into something more refined. We are calling the project Relay.

I am sharing this because I know other Aspire users have run into some of the same limitations. I would be interested to hear how others are currently handling service-specific notifications, schedule changes, and customers with multiple visits.

This is awesome! Does/could this program have the ability to send a “one time” SMS message, unrelated to a certain ticket? We definitely want more flexibility with being able to set up automated SMS messages, but we also would want the ability to send a one time message to an individual or group of people through a program like this.

Oh yeah, this feature is one that’s on it’s way. We are also working on proposal follow up and invoice follow up workflows through the API. I believe strongly that automating follow up is so important. Another nice benefit is that the text goes out from the same phone number we call and text them from. Myself and my office manager and my production manager all have access to see/send texts from the same line.

That’s so great. We would love to be able to have a “central” SMS line to be able to use and see the history of. Looking forward to seeing where this goes!
